There are literally hundreds of adhesives on the market, and I’ve tried quite a few of them. But there are three that are ALWAYS on my craft table no matter what…
TOMBOW MULTIPURPOSE LIQUID GLUE
There was a time that I was a huge fan of tape runners, until I visited a friend one day.
I walked into her living room and there it sat on her fireplace mantel…… a card I had sent her about six months earlier. I had to gleam a little on the inside that she actually kept my card, but then I walked closer and my heart sank.
Gasp! It was falling apart!
Maybe that doesn’t seem like a big deal to you, but when I make something for someone and put my time and my heart into it, I want it to last (assuming they keep it, of course!).
So I went on a quest to find a better adhesive. After trying several others, I landed on Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
I have to tell you a little embarrasing story, though. For some reason, when I first tried it, I only opened the large end. I assumed it was like a glue stick with a broad tip. I tried it a few times and didn’t really like it because I couldn’t get the glue to go where I wanted it to.
And then one day…….duh…….I noticed the other end! It was a pen tip that would put the glue EXACTLY where I wanted it! I’ve been in love ever since.
What really sold me on it, though, was the fact that it sticks and stays. I can run a thin bead of glue around the back of my paper, have a second or two to reposition it if needed, and then it’s there to stay. Woohoo!!!
Oh yes, there’s one more little tip I want to share with you…my shot glass! It’s the perfect way to store Tombow Liquid Glue so that’s it’s always ready and waiting for me to use. I found these at Wal-Mart for 99 cents – a great investment!
STAMPIN’ DIMENSIONALS AND MINI STAMPIN’ DIMENSIONALS
What can I say…I’m just not crazy about a totally flat card. Yes, there are ways to create dimension with coloring, shading, etc., but the easiest way is with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
These little pops of self-adhesive foam just make me happy! There are soooo many ways to use them that I won’t get into right now, but seriously, they make a card POP like nothing else.
They’re 1/16″ thick, which I think is slightly thinner than many foam dots on the market. But that makes them perfect in my book, because they are more flexible and give me the ability to add dimension and still get the card in the envelope!
At about a penny a piece, they’re totally worth it, because guess what…you can cut them in half if you want to AND you can cut up and use all the edge pieces, making them an even better value!
I can’t cut a penny in half, but I can sure cut a Stampin’ Dimensional in half!
Stampin’ Up! actually just came out with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals as well. They are probably about 1/3 the size of the regular ones. Oh the possibilities – I’ll be able to put them EVERYWHERE!
MINI GLUE DOTS
Last, but not least, are Mini Glue Dots. These are PERFECT for adhering ribbon and embellishments.
You don’t want to use Liquid Glue to adhere ribbon, because it soaks through the ribbon and just gets all messy. But these little dots are just the ticket.
You can pop one on each end of your ribbon, fold the ends behind your card to stick them down, and wah-lah. No muss, no fuss!
You can also stick one or two behind a bow, a button or any other cute embellishment, and they will hold it perfectly in place.
So that’s it – My top three adhesives that are always on my craft table!
This is Part One of a seven-part series on all (or at least many) of my favorite crafting tools and why I love to use them, so be sure to come back for Part Two – My Favorite Tools that Cut.
